Essential January 2026 Business Tax Deadlines

With the start of 2026, businesses have crucial tax deadlines looming. Planning ahead ensures your business remains compliant and steers clear of penalties, a critical component of maintaining financial health.

January 15 - Employer’s Monthly Deposit Due -

Employers adhering to monthly deposit rules must make deposits for December 2025's Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income taxes by January 15. Likewise, this deadline applies for nonpayroll withholding deposits under similar rules. Remember, employment tax deposits need to be made electronically unless your deposit liability is under $2,500 per return period, permitting quarterly or annual payments with the return.

January 15 - Farmers and Fishermen -

By January 15, farmers and fishermen should pay estimated taxes for 2025 via Form 1040-ES. While the deadline for filing your 2025 tax return (Form 1040 or 1040-SR) remains April 15, failing to pay by this date requires you to file the 2025 return and pay any taxes by March 2, 2026, to circumvent an estimated tax penalty.
