Essential Business Tax Deadlines for October 2025

October is upon us, bringing not only cooler weather but also a host of vital business tax deadlines. Whether it's corporate filings or retirement contributions, staying informed of these key dates will ensure your compliance and protect you from unnecessary penalties.

October 15 - Corporate Filings
If your corporation operates on a calendar year and you've previously requested a six-month extension, you must file the 2024 income tax return (Form 1120) and remit any due taxes, interest, or penalties by October 15.

October 15 - Payroll Tax Deposits
For employers adhering to the monthly deposit rules, October 15 is also the deadline for depositing September 2025’s Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income taxes. The same deadline applies to nonpayroll withholding if the monthly rule is applicable.

October 15 - Establishing Retirement Plans
Self-employed individuals granted an extension for their 2023-2024 tax return have until October 15 to set up a Keogh Retirement Account for contributions aimed at the 2024 tax year.

October 31 - Quarterly Reporting
Employers must file Form 941 for the third quarter by October 31, with any undeposited tax paid according to the accuracy of deposit rules. If a full deposit was made on time, filing can be extended to November 10. Ensure compliance to avoid late fees!

Small employers must deposit any undeposited taxes if the liability between the year and quarter meets specific criteria, ensuring adherence to federal requirements.

Federal Unemployment Tax Responsibilities
All federal unemployment taxes accrued through September, exceeding $500, must be deposited by this date to remain in compliance.

Weekends & Holidays
Deadlines that coincide with weekends or public holidays uniformly rollover to the next business day.

Tax Deadlines for Disaster Areas
